H4TW welcomes Amy L. Pesch from Stanford Hospital’s Neurocritical Care unit. She
describes the step-wise approach to the care for patients suffering from stroke. She begins in
the Emergency department and explains why the triage nurse’s role is so crucial to patient
outcomes. Then she walks us through the patient’s stay in the Intensive Care Unit and explains
potential complications that may arise in post-stroke care. Finally, she describes the nurses’
roles in both follow up and management of post-stroke sequelae.
